FAQ’s

How long have you been in business?

We’ve been finishing and remodeling basements in Colorado for almost fifteen years now. Our parent company, Scottish Home Improvements began in 2002 with windows and siding. After partnering with companies like Alside Building products and Pella Windows, we expanded to include decking, remodeling, and more.

Do I need a permit to finish or remodel my basement?

Colorado Finished Basements always pulls the required permits for all of our basement finishes and remodels. Our team knows the bylaws for every city and county in our service area, and we always make sure our work is always up to code. Be sure not to trust any contractor that recommends finishing or remodeling your basement without pulling permits – he/she may be looking to cut corners on his/her work.

Will I need to hire an electrician or plumber?

Nope! Our team at Colorado Finished Basements can handle any size or type of basement project. We have the expertise to tackle any problem your basement can present – from plumbing to electrical to flooring to windows, you can be sure that we will get it done quickly, efficiently, and correctly.

Is finishing/remodeling my basement a good investment?

Studies show that a basement finish/remodel returns around 70% on average of what you spend on it, usually higher on a professionally done job. Typically, finishing and/or remodeling your basement will give you a solid return on your investment, and give you a wonderful space to spend your time while you live in your home.

Do I need new windows in a new basement bedroom?

The state of Colorado requires that every basement has at least one egress window – the state also requires that there is an egress window in any sleeping room, as well. If you’re looking to add a bedroom in your basement, it must have an egress window in it to meet code.

What are egress windows and why are they required?

An egress window is a window that’s large enough to allow a person to exit through it in case of an emergency. Many cities/counties also require an egress window well with an attached ladder or steps for ease of use during an emergency escape. Colorado requires that every basement have at least one egress window, and an extra in every sleeping room in the basement. The windows must be of a minimum size and height, depending on which city/county you live in. As always, the experts at Colorado Finished Basements know the bylaws and guidelines for every city and county we service. You can trust us to do the job right.

Do you guys only do basements?

A part of Scottish Group Companies, we have experts in every field. We specialize in basements, windows, siding, whole house remodels, etc. If you have any other home improvement needs besides your basement, we can handle them as well!

How much do you charge for an estimate?

Our estimates are always free! We are more than happy to sit down with you and discuss the details of your project. After meeting with you, we can typically present you with a detailed estimate and guaranteed price within a couple of business days.

How much will my basement cost? How long will it take?

Both of these questions are tough to answer, as the cost and time-frame will vary per job. Although we can typically finish your project in 6-10 weeks, the time will vary depending on how complex your project is. You can always feel free to contact us for a free estimate. One of our experts will come to your home, and present you with a detailed estimate and time-frame.
